The German Rennsport is otherwise known as the shortened RS. The term is used by Audi to distinguish their high performance RS model from the regular models. The Audi A3 for example is the regular model with a quality engine. There’s also the Audi S3 and coming 2017, the Audi RS3. These are both versions of the Audi A3, the only difference between the models is what’s under the hood.
Rennsport is not just a name for a car model, brought to life by Audi, it is actually a regular German word, meaning “motor racing”. Granted, it is a slightly old-fashioned term, which is probably why Audi deemed it successful to start using it for their high-performance models. Germany has always been a great player in auto and motor sports and the name Rennsport truly represents the fact that in Germany the golden days of Motorsport started a long time ago.
