Booming days are ahead of car manufacturers all around the world. The launch of the latest models with groundbreaking designs and mechanical improvements express a desire to leave the past behind. A new era in modern day car architecture and manufacturing has arrived, and every brand wants to be the first and best at it. Mercedes-Benz takes a shot at that with their 2017 Mercedes Benz SLC. Now what can we expect fromt this convertible roadster?
A formidable opponent of all roadsters is the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC. This model replaces the Mercedes-Benz SLK, which was already on the market since 1997, with over 600,000 units sold. For the Mercedes-fans who wish for a more powerful convertible, the top speed 2018 Mercedes AMG GT Roadster may be an option.
The Mercedes design team has upgraded, lifted and smoothed out all the features of the latest Mercedes SLK, which has resulted in a far more round and elegant model. The “face” of the SLC will look significantly different than the SLK’s. The headlights, front bumper and entirely new grille are inspired by the look of the old 300SL that won the 1952 Carrera Panamericana prize. That look will be updated to look more sporty and aerodynamic, in line with modern day trends.
On the side, there are only a few differences with the SLK. On the front, the SLC doesn’t have that small body opening on the fascia. Also, the fascia is smooth instead of seemingly wrapped around. Further down the side, the fender vent appears similar. However, the center louver actually stops inside the vent, making it look much more clean and sophisticated. Furthermore, the small body line underneath the vent runs longer through on the door and comes to a sharp point as it also does on the SLK model. The body line above the fender vent starts close to the centre of the wheel, but halts into an edgy point almost half way across the door. Whereas on the SLK, this body line ended close to the door handle.
All in all, the exterior of the 2017 SLC is a sight for sore eyes. Especially when it’s compared to the exterior of the convertible by that other great German car manufacturer, BMW, their 2018 Z5 model.
The 2017 Mercedes Benz SLC is available in two versions, the SLC43 and the SLC300. The Mercedes Benz SLC 300 has a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. The horsepower is 241 and the car is equipped with a nine speed 9G-Trionic automatic transmission. These features offer the best and balanced options to enjoy a ride in this lovely and more than comfortable automobile.
Moreover, top speed on the SLC300 is 130 mph (210 kmph), with it taking 5.7 seconds to reach 60 mph (100 kmph) from a full stop. This makes the SLC300 a perfect car for cruising the coasts, highways and even city roads. Either at a lovely leisurely pace or a flaming speed.
Finally, the SLC43 provides the driver with a more powerful type of engine with a 3.0-liter V-6 motor that reaches 362 horsepower. The SLC43 hits 60 mph (100 kmph) in just 4.6 seconds. That is significantly faster than its four-cylinder brother, the SLC300.
Another notable fast and furious convertible, is the brand new upcoming 2017 Mazda MX-5 Retractable Fastback.
Both versions of the 2017 Mercedes Benz SLC come with an electro-hydraulic air roof. This one is openable and closeable even when the car is rolling at a maximum of 25 mph (40 kmph).
