The Dodge RAM might not have been the first pick-up truck, but it certainly is one that goes a long way. According to statistics from the IHS Automotive Registration Dodge and RAM have the highest percentage of older pick up trucks still on the road today. The RAM definitely looks like an extremely tough car, but it’s good to hear it actually is. The 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 does everything to make sure the longevity of the RAM brand will be continued. Many updates and design additions come with this truck to make it completely contemporary and ready to compete against the sharp-priced and surprisingly spacious 2017 Nissan Titan.
Best of all are the engine updates, with extra features to make the RAM’s off-road experience more safe and much more enjoyable, so check that out!
Let’s start off with the most prominent features of the 2017 Dodge RAM 1500. The pick-up truck is available in three different cab lay-outs: the Crew Cab, the Quad Cab and the Regular Cab. Crew and Quad Cab both offer seating for up to six persons and four doors, but the Quad Cab offers a bit less rear leg room. Crew Cab offers a choice of two lengths of pick up beds. Finally, the Regular Cab offers seating for up to three people and has two doors, plus the choice of a six foot or eight foot pickup bed.
Additionally, the 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 is available in twelve different trims! Meaning, it’s almost impossible to discuss every detail of every trim. Of course, the global outlook of the car is the same.
On the lowest trim the front grille is completely dark, with just the chrome Dodge logo in the middle. The highest trim comes with a fully chromed out grille and the word RAM in the middle. Both get blocky headlights directly connecting to the grille, the higher trims get LED lights. Also, the front bumper is a dark plastic on the lower trims with integrated air vents, on the higher trims this one is also chromed up.
Check out the Dodge website to see all the different trims, the Build & Price section offers the very best overview. Finally, the base model offers thirty exterior colours to choose from! Check out the RAM trucks website to check out all the available colours for all trims.
The standard base model interior is a grey vinyl, specifically made to endure heavy duty use. Per trim different interior options are available with a dark leather as standard on the higher trims.
New for the 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 is the center stack. Updated with some new buttons and a more comprehensive infotainment system with an 8.4 inch touch screen. Also new is the automatic dual-zone climate control and five-micron cabin air filter, standard on all models.
Available is a digital cluster with a 7 inch colour display with customizable information.
Also, on all models the seats can be folded down completely, except for the driver’s seat, for extra cargo space.
Newly released special edition RAMs offer other interior lay-outs. Also, at a premium the whole cabin can be foreseen of striking wood accents.
Of course, the best part about the 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 is the fact that it’s currently the only pick-up vehicle in the US which offers a diesel engine. This has been the vehicle’s prize spec all those years and clearly returns for 2017.
The base engine is a 3.6 liter Chrysler Pentastar V6 engine, good for 305 hp. Second offer is the 3.0 liter EcoDiesel engine, rated at 240 hp and finally there’s the 5.7 liter V8 that makes 395 hp. All three engines come with an eight speed automatic transmission.
All trims of the 2017 Dodge RAM 1500 come with either two wheel or all wheel drive. On a final note, the engine specs of the RAM 1500 give it the best possible specs to compete against future guaranteed best-seller, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler pick-up.
In terms of tech, there is not much standard on the 2017 RAM 1500. Available options are a rear view camera and front park assist. Also available on higher trims is the remote keyless entry fob, complete with All-Secure feature. We expect the RAM 1500 to get renewed again by 2020, with the tech department being one of the main overhauled parts of the car. With the previously discontinued off-road favourite 2020 Ford Bronco returning for that model year, the RAM 1500 simply needs to retain its significance.
Standard on the base model is Cruise Control. In terms of infotainment, many SiriusXM subscriptions are available to be added to the car’s software. Also, the operating infotainment system can either be the UConnect 3.0 or the UCOnnect 5.0, the latter the updated and improved version of the software.
